Fault finding & repairs in Plainland.

Tripping switches, dead circuits and weird gremlins, found and fixed.

Power that trips when it rains. One dead room. Lights that dim when the pump runs. Electrical gremlins are annoying right up until they are dangerous.

Fault finding is proper detective work with the right test gear, and it is some of the most valuable work we do. We find the actual cause and fix that, not the symptom.

The board that trips when it rains.

The Lockyer classic. Somewhere outside, water is getting into a fitting, a junction or an old garden light, and every decent storm your safety switch does exactly its job.

We test circuit by circuit, isolate the leg that leaks, and open up the point where water lives. The fix is usually small: a cooked outdoor fitting, a cracked conduit, a junction box that gave up years ago. Finding it is the skill.

Why the switch keeps tripping.

A safety switch that will not hold is not being dramatic. Something on that circuit is leaking current, and the usual suspects are a failing appliance, moisture, or damaged insulation.

The worst response is bypassing or upsizing protection to make the annoyance stop, which converts a warning into a hazard. The right response is measuring where the leak is, and that is a half-hour job with the right meter.

Old wiring, honest advice.

Plenty of local homes still run sections of rubber or cloth-insulated wiring from the middle of last century. It did its time; it also crumbles when touched and was never earthed the way modern rules demand.

If we open a wall or ceiling and find it, you get photos and plain-English options: what is genuinely urgent, what can be staged, what it costs. No scare campaign, just what we would do in our own house.

Storms, surges and getting you back on.

After a big storm we triage: no power at all, partial power, or power that will not stay on. Some of it is Ergon's side of the fence and we will tell you straight so you are not paying us to wait for them.

What is on your side, from cooked circuits to surge-damaged boards, we repair and test the same visit wherever parts allow. Priority goes to fridges, medical gear and water pumps, because that is what actually matters.

Fair questions

Fault finding & repairs FAQs.

Half the house has no power. What do I check first?

The board. If a safety switch or breaker is down, try resetting once. If it will not hold, something is genuinely wrong: unplug appliances on that circuit and call. Never hold a switch on.

Do you charge to find the fault?

Fault finding is time-based and we tell you the rate up front. Most faults are found inside the first hour, then you get a fixed price for the repair before we do it.

Why do my lights flicker when the pump starts?

Motor start-up draws a spike, and on a marginal circuit or a tired connection you see it in the lights. Sometimes benign, sometimes a warning. It is worth a look, especially if it is new behaviour.

Is old wiring really dangerous?

Age alone is not a verdict, but perished insulation, no earth and overloaded circuits are. An inspection gives you facts and photos, then you decide with real information.
